The FBI's Civil Rights Program includes a variety of Color of Law and Hate Crimes violations. Racial, religious and housing discrimination account for 23 percent of the FBI Civil Rights investigations. Hate crimes are committed by individuals or groups, and often involve damage of religious property, discrimination in housing, voting rights violations and interference with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Other violations are Color of Law through force or misconduct, such as physical abuse, summary punishment, and fabrication of evidence. Color of Law violations account for 74 percent of FBI Civil Rights investigations. The FBI also investigates violence against reproductive health clinics. These violations, accounting for 2.5 percent of FBI Civil Rights investigations, include actions which cause damage or destruction to, and obstruct access to, these facilities. Finally, the FBI investigates involuntary servitude and slavery violations, such as situations where immigrants are held involuntarily. These violations account for 0.5 percent of FBI Civil Rights investigations. |
