Laura Laughlin, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Seattle Division of the FBI, announced today that a parachute, found early last month in a rural area of north Clark County, was not the one used by the man who has come to be known as D.B Cooper, and does not appear to have any connection to the case. The FBI investigation into the discovery, which included interviews of parachute experts and additional digging at the site, concluded late today. No further investigation into this aspect of the case is anticipated.
SAC Laughlin stated, “This is exactly what we were hoping for when we opened our investigation to the public. From the children who discovered the parachute and convinced their father to call the FBI, to the experts who came forward with offers of assistance, this investigation has truly become a joint effort of the public, the media and law enforcement. We are confident the case can still be solved with this new emphasis.”
