Violent Crimes
The mission of the Violent Crimes Program is to investigate and prosecute those responsible for violence against
individuals, and both property theft and destruction. The Program also handles fugitive matters which fall under the federal criminal
code of law. The Seattle Office investigates violent crime matters using several task forces and FBI Resident Agencies throughout
Washington State.
Examples of Violent Crime Investigative Matters
- Wanted as a result of FBI investigations
- escaped federal prisoners
- probation/parole violators
- Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP) (including parental kidnapping fugitives)
- Bank Robbery, Burglary or Larceny
- Theft of Government Property
- Interstate Transportation of Motor Vehicles
- Interstate Transportation of Stolen Property
- Theft from Interstate Shipments
- Assaulting, Kidnapping, or Killing of the President, Vice President, or Member of Congress
- Crime Aboard an Aircraft
- Kidnapping-Extortion
- Sexual Exploitation of Children
- Tampering with Consumer Products
Puget Sound Violent Crimes Task Force
The Puget Sound Violent Crimes Task Force was formed in March 1995 to address violent crime in the Greater Puget
Sound area. The task force currently has two operating groups: the Violent Crimes Group and the Bank Robbery Group. The Violent Crimes
Group investigates crimes of violence, such as extortion, kidnapping, and weapons violations. The Bank Robbery Group works on bank
robberies which occur in the Seattle/King County area. Both task forces consist of FBI personnel as well as other local law enforcement
agencies.
